Regularly scheduled hygiene cleanings and oral examinations at our Pembroke and Deep River dental clinics can help to prevent dental issues from arising and to keep your smile healthy.
Oral Examinations
Regular oral examinations, ideally scheduled twice per year, give your dentists at our Wellspring Dental clinics the opportunity to detect oral health issues and create a plan to treat them as soon as possible.
During your exam, your dentist will take a close look at the health of your teeth, gums, jaw and bite. Exams may also include dental x-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is capable of affecting any part of your mouth or the surrounding tissues. In the course of your oral examination, our dentists will check your neck, lips face, throat, gums and tongue for any signs of oral cancer which may be difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
In order to keep your smile healthy between dental appointments, make sure that you brush your teeth at least twice per day (for at least two minutes each time) and floss once per day at a minimum.
Dental Hygiene Cleaning
Before or after your exam, your dental hygienist will perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to prevent and treat disease.
To start, your dental hygienist will use a scaler to remove any plaque or tartar which has built up on in your mouth. Next, they will use a polisher and a coarse toothpaste to remove leftover plaque or stains. This is followed by a thorough flossing of you gums and teeth.
Fluoride Treatment
If you or your children have a predisposition to tooth decay, our dentists may also recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral which can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel in order to prevent (or even reverse) tooth decay.
